LYRICS 🎶:

I've been reflecting today on the events of this year
And an ache in my heart 'cause something's not right
I've been feeling this way for a long, long time
But the events of this year make a man break down and cry

I just looked at the news and saw Dan Dumile [MF DOOM] died
Before it took it's last breath, this year had to take one more life
So many more will have been lost by the time we get to midnight
And if you lost someone dear, I hope you find peace of mind

Some of us locked in our rooms, some of us fight to survive
We see the stock market boom, we see the West Coast catch fire
How can we go with the flow? How can we manage our time
When the events of this year have got us losing our minds?

They say "down with the king, his words are beyond the pale"
But there are so many things that cause a system to fail
And though that one man's defeat will help us all to arise
The events of this year are bigger than one man's lies

We won't be saved from above, we've gotta tell them what's right
We've gotta learn how to love, we've gotta learn how to fight
You've gotta come with a vision before you change someone's mind
May the events of this year push us to organize

We can create for us all, not just for the few
We can break down old walls, we can build something new
So let's roll up our sleeves as the new year arrives
There's nothing more to one year than hope that the next one's alright
